With no ram-air effect at the scoop, the engine has to pull its entire air demand through that whole duct run under vacuum alone. That creates a pressure drop before the compressor inlet, which means less dense air and turbos working harder for the same result. You feel it as lazy response off the line.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is a second problem, and it's one you can verify on your own car. \u003cstrong\u003eThe foam inside the factory airbox degrades as these cars age.\u003c\/strong\u003e It breaks apart, and the debris ends up sitting against the filter element — adding restriction and compromising filtration.
